Travis took a day off from work and we spent a long weekend with his parents on the other side of the state. It was an interesting weekend. Heading into the weekend, Sam was having allergy issues (along with, apparently, half of the state- HA!) and so he had a runny nose. It started turning green and, since we were going out of town, I took him to the doc just to be on the safe side. He had some fluid in one of his ears but it wasn’t infected. They said it was mainly allergies but he also might have had a little virus because he had a very low grade fever and the virus would have to run its course. This was on Thursday, the day we left to go visit Travis’ parents.

Well, when we were trying to put Sam to bed that first night, we discovered that there was something wrong with the A/C because it would only blow hot air. Then, we discovered that Sam has outgrown his pack n play! YIKES! We finally got him to sleep only he kept waking up throughout the night and so Travis ended up sleeping on the floor with him in the den where some windows were open for a breeze. When he woke up the next morning (Friday) he was HOT so we knew he had an official fever. I am still thinking it is the virus/allergy thing so we just hang out and try to keep him comfy since he didn’t sleep well and was hot from the lack of A/C and the fever. He was grumpy but not too bad. We ate at Cracker Barrel that night but once we got home Friday night was a repeat of Thursday night because the A/C guy got stung by bees and wouldn’t be able to come check things out until Monday. Mr. Earl kept looking though for someone to come check it out but never could find someone. Obviously, we all survived so it is OK but we were all pretty hot.

Saturday, in an attempt to entertain Sam we took him to the kids museum nearby. He was acting like he felt much better and didn’t feel as hot so we thought it was OK. We got there and he enjoyed playing inside the museum. We went the day of the premier of their new discovery garden so we decided to check it out too. Well, they wanted you to only go out when they had a group and then you were supposed to all come back in as a group. Sam’s attention span is NOWHERE NEAR that of a 3 year old and he got grumpy, hot, and tired. We eventually took the long way back to the museum and walked back without our group. Once back, he wasn’t very interested because he was so hot and tired that we just headed home. After lunch, he took a nap on the front porch with Travis. He was so hot that we took his clothes off to try to help him get comfy. His fever had come back. 😦

Sunday, we came home knowing Sam would be going back to the doctor on Monday because something wasn’t right. He has never had a fever that lasted that long or made him that grumpy. Monday morning, Sam and I went to the doc and discovered that he had a REALLY bad ear infection in the ear that was perfectly clear that previous Thursday. The other ear, that originally had fluid, hadn’t changed. Sam had sweated so much over the weekend that the doctor had to remove a bunch of ear wax just get a good look at his ear drum. It was crazy! She could tell that he didn’t feel good by looking at his eyes and then because he didn’t want her touching his ears. He is usually very content for them to do whatever they want when he is at the doctor- not this day. Anyway, we got sent home with a prescription for a strong antibiotic and orders to come back if he still had a fever in 3 days. Thankfully, we never had to go back especially since we left the next day to drive to Mississippi to see my parents.

Now that you have read all of this, here are some pictures to check out.

When I took Sam to the doctor the second time, it was raining. Therefore, he FINALLY got to wear his Clifford raincoat. He loves that thing and refused to take it off. The nurses and doctors really enjoyed seeing Sam dressed at Clifford and, even though he was sick, Sam enjoyed acting silly for him. Here he is in the waiting room dressed at Clifford.
