Today was our only “full” day in Montreal. Travis had a meeting this morning but was finished by 9:30. Therefore, we were able to take a 3 hour bus tour of Montreal and get to some of the cool places a bit further out. It was nice. We took lots of pictures but, as is the case with a bus tour, some of the pics are not the greatest. It is OK though because our last stop made up for it- as you will see…

The tour started by driving us around Old Montreal. Travis and I have walked this whole area so we didn’t “see” anything new but learned some new information about some of the buildings. We had a 20 minute “photo stop” at the Notre Dame Basilica that Travis and I used as a reason to go to the cupcake shop I’ve been eyeing. It was yummy!!

Here are our cupcakes. Again, I ate half of mine and Travis ate half of his and then we switched!

Travis’ (on left) was a chocolate mint one and mine was fondant “something or another”- it had something in the middle of it that was really good.

After our cupcake stop, we rode some more around town. Some of the interesting things we saw were…
Olympic village.

This is now an apartment complex and rent ranges from around $750 – $2500 A MONTH!

The Olympic Stadium.

You can ride a “funicular” (read BIG elevator) up the outside of the leaning tower part. It looked kind of cool but we didn’t get a chance to do that.

A hospital.

St. Joseph’s Oratory (LARGE Catholic church where people travel to and pray to be healed. The founding Father became a saint this year by Pope Benedict because he healed so many people.) This was a photo stop so we got multiple good pictures.

We then stopped at an overlook on Mont Royal. You could see the whole city! Travis took a series of pictures and I have made them into a panoramic picture. You may need to click on the actual picture so you can go to our album and see a bigger version. It is really cool, or at least we think so.
Here are a couple of big single photos. In the first one, the LARGE white thing in the middle is Olympic Stadium again.

We got a guy to take our picture with Montreal (and the Olympic Stadium) behind us.

After our tour was over, we ate at a sandwich shop called Dunn’s. Travis had overheard some ladies talk about how they had been told that was the best sandwich shop in town. They are famous for their smoked meat so that is what we had. We each ordered a smoked meat sandwich but Travis ordered the meal so we could get fries (we upgraded to poutine though) and cold slaw. I just got the sandwich and we shared his sides. It worked great!

and, of course, the poutine. YUMMY, artery clogging goodness! HA!

After lunch, we came back to the hotel and went to the swimming pool. Travis is currently taking a nap and we have talked about not really doing anything tonight and just chill out and get ready to go home tomorrow. I don’t know if that is officially what we will do or not. If we do something, I will update the blog. 🙂
