Sunday was the Wake Forest fireworks show. Since we moved here, we have always been unable to attend- until this year. I was SOOOO excited because I’ve heard so much about how good it is and we know the lady in charge of the “program.” Needless to say, we were not disappointed.

We arrived about 5:45 to ensure that we had a parking spot in the school parking lot. The LAST thing we wanted to be doing was hiking back to our car late that night with an exhausted Sam. We succeeded in getting a GREAT spot and were able to “quickly” (it took about 15 minutes) to get out of the parking lot once the show was over. Yippie!

Anyway, for the almost 4 hours before the fireworks started we hung out with people from our Sunday School class. It was super fun and we were all able to keep the kiddos (6 that are 5 and under) relatively corralled.

Twice, we were able to watch 4 paratroopers land. It was cool!
They are just little specks in this picture…

Touchdown!

From July 2011

Finally, once it was dark enough, the fireworks started. Travis and I LOVE taking pictures of fireworks. Therefore, we brought our gorillapod along so that we could mount our camera to something in order to take long exposure photos. Here is the setup Travis finally decided upon…

Before the fireworks started, Sam and I packed up the “yellow car” (aka bike/jogging stroller) and Sam sat in it to watch the show. That way, immediately upon the final “boom” of the night, we were able to start walking to our car. It worked perfectly! Travis took around 100 photos of the fireworks and we have been able to narrow it down to 40 that we will “keep.” On Sunday, I created a photo collage in photoshop that I ordered to have printed on an 8×10 canvas for Travis’ office. We have a 16×20 collage from 2008 hanging above my desk so I thought it would be nice for Travis to have some fireworks in his office as well. Here is how it turned out-

Our main critique of the photos is that next year, Travis needs to move back a fence post so that more of the bottom of the fireworks is seen instead of being out of the frame. All in all though, we are definitely pleased with the shots!

Sam was asleep before we got out of the parking lot and pretty much stayed asleep while he got into his PJs when we got home. WOO HOO!
