As previously mentioned, the day after VBS we took Sam to Alabama to meet Travis’ parents so that Sam could spend two weeks with them. The Friday after the Southern Baptist Convention, he and I headed to Travis’ parents house so that we could get Sam go visit some other relatives. However, we first hung out in Ellenboro for a couple of days visiting family. It was nice and relaxing and HOT. Whew! However, we did have tons of fun. Heading up, we spent the night in Alabama and so we didn’t actually get to Ellenboro until Saturday afternoon- right before a big family cookout. πŸ™‚

Sam definitely enjoyed playing with his cousins. The older of the two boys in the picture below with Sam is just 4 days younger than Sam. WOW!

After the cookout, Travis decided that he wanted to take Sam to see Clyde. Clyde is the local barber who has cut Travis’ hair for as long as Travis can remember. When Clyde saw Sam he thought his bangs needed a trim (they did) but they the time it was over, Clyde had trimmed ALL of Sam’s hair. We weren’t planning on getting Sam’s haircut while we were gone but it definitely looks a lot better. I am having problems trying to find someone in LA that can cut it the way Mario did back in Wake Forest. 😦

After our visit to Clyde’s we dropped by Uncle Charles’ house. We sat on the front porch and talked with him for a bit while Sam ran around out in the yard. At one point, Sam just casually says “Hey, Peacock” and so I asked Sam if he saw a peacock. He says (almost sarcastically) “well, yeah- right there” and points. I come down off the porch and look and there really was a peacock walking around! Eventually, the peacock flew to the roof and then walked around for a bit before jumping onto the chimney. Then it jumped back onto the roof except I couldn’t see it so I thought it had gone down the chimney. HA! It was crazy! Thankfully, he had just jumped onto the other side of the roof and so all was well. I only had my phone and it was getting dark so I took a picture and then just used some free photo software to try to brighten it to show the peacock. Travis said that Uncle Charles has had 3 peacocks for a LONG time but this was just the first time I had seen them.

The next day, Sunday, we went to a family lunch at “The Old House” that has been recently renovated. This is the house where Travis grandparents and aunts and uncles lived. No one had lived in it for a LONG time so it had tons of repairs needed- it was basically gutted. However, it looks amazing and it is a nice place to have family gatherings. We really like how Travis’ cousin Christy has decorated it. I took pictures to share on the blog. It is kind of funny that she hasn’t replaced the standard people in the frame with actual family members so right now it looks like the family is a lot bigger than what it is- HA! (Not that it is by any means a small family.)

Yes, that is an outhouse in the picture above. The house has no bathroom. Thankfully, there is a bathroom in a trailer up the driveway that we were able to use as needed. Although I am SURE Sam would’ve loved to have pottied in the outhouse. πŸ™‚

We even had Ladder Ball set up in the front yard to play. Travis and I were undefeated- HA!

It was a fun trip and it was definitely great to see family that we can’t see as often since we are back in Louisiana. Sam enjoyed it and cracks me up talking about various relatives by their full name. He is so funny.
