Our zoo has an annual festival called “Les Fest” in memory of a man named Les who founded the zoo, or was a longtime curator, or something. I can’t recall at the moment. Anyway, they do special animal “events” all day and so we checked it out.

The first thing we watched were various animals eating breakfast. We stopped at the White Tigers first. One of the zookeepers “hid” raw meat throughout the enclosure and then let the tigers go on a scavenger hunt to find them. It was neat to watch.

Then there was a lady holding a snake. To Sam, snakes don’t bother him so he was super excited to pet one. I was thankful that I just needed to take pictures. 🙂

There was a zydeco band on the stage and some fun inflatables and activities for kids to participate in.

After playing on the inflatable for a little while, it was time to go watch the lions eat. They ate raw chicken that still had bones in it. The process was the same as the tigers- the zookeeper stashed food around the enclosure and the lions searched for it.

There were a few characters walking around for the kids to interact with. Sam definitely had to say “Hey” to Dora!

After the obligatory train ride, we came home for a quick nap before heading out to LC for a football game!
