This was our second year to attend the dragon boat races in downtown Alexandria. Last year, it was damp, hot, and M-U-G-G-Y. This year it was just plan H-O-T!!! However, we still had fun! The children’s museum got in on the fun this year and had stations set up out in their front yard. We headed there first. Sam built a pirate ship…

They had a laser tag course set up and Sam wanted to try it. Travis took him over and got the head “thingy” and gun and then tried to give him a crash course in how to play. It was quite entertaining and he had a blast.

His major advantage was that the big guys were mainly interested in shooting each other AND he was pretty much the same height at the “wall.” I love this picture!

While enjoying the “game,” I was sitting in what little shade we could find so I could nurse Gabrielle. My nursing cover doesn’t allow for a breeze to really blow through due to it being fully enclosed. Gabrielle’s hair was plastered to her head when she finished- she was so hot!

After finally getting hit the max amount of times, Sam headed toward the inflatable. However, he didn’t last too long- the plastic was quite hot.

After playing with all the activities at the Children’s museum, we headed to the riverfront to watch a few races.

It was a close race!

We did not watch too many races due to the heat and having a newborn who still hasn’t fully accepted the “coolness” of riding around in a stroller. Thankfully, she finally fell asleep. However, we did get a family picture in front of one of the dragon boats.

Almost immediately after getting in our car, the clouds opened up and TONS of rain fell. It made everything nasty super fast and we were super thankful we left when we did!

The dry and beautiful riverfront where we had been standing not even 10 minutes earlier was now a wet and dreary mess.

After taking Travis back to LC to pick up his car (he had graduation this morning), we all headed home to rest and cool off. It wasn’t even raining (nor were there signs of rain) when we got back to the apartment- HA! Crazy Louisiana weather!
