Yup! That was MY hubby on the local radio morning talk show! I am so proud!! He was on there to talk about the relationship between LC and SACS because there are lots of opinions circulating right now regarding those two entities. I think he did a fantastic job! Obviously, I didn’t record the entire thing but I got the main part. When the radio host asked for callers, no one called. I thought that was kind of funny. Therefore, you definitely don’t miss anything by me not recording all the way to the end.
This morning, Sam’s school had a parade for all the kids to participate in. It was really cute. Each class did something different and processed out to the oohs and ahhs of parents. Sam’s class made their own floats- with parental help. Sam’s float was an airplane. It turned out rather cute.
During Sam’s nap this past Sunday, Travis built the airplane since it involved a lot of cutting and taping.
Last night, Sam and I cut construction paper and taped it to cover the box. Travis used my sewing machine to make really nice straps for Sam to use to wear his float. It turned out great!
After the parade, they had a King Cake party in the fellowship hall. The preK class has been learning about Louisiana all week and so they shared a cute song about Louisiana they learned.
I did manage to video the parade and their singing. The parade was actually held in the church’s parking garage so it was very dark. For some reason, the focus on my video camera wasn’t the best but you can still see what went on.
After his snack, we came home and have had a very low-key day at Casa Wright.
Sam’s preschool choir sung tonight as part of the Lighting of the Greens service at church. It was the first time that Sam has done that so we were a bit excited. Here is Sam before the service with one of the LC students who helps.
Travis took the pictures and I made a semi-blurry video (sorry)… here is the video… Yes, I crack up because Sam sucks his thumb and then smells it and exclaims that he has a “stinky” thumb! Such a silly goof!

After nap today, Sam sat on the porch to each a giant pixie stix. He had never had one before but I told him he had to eat it outside because we didn’t want to get sugar all over the missionary house. He decided to dress himself first. 🙂
Our neighbor, Jodi, has two cats- one we call “Hitler” because it is solid black except for the white mustache and one called Jack. Sam really likes Jack and Jack seems to really like Sam(or at least puts up with him.) This afternoon, Sam figured out that Jack likes our push broom and so they played together for a few minutes. I was highly entertained so I made a movie of the “action”…

The most adorable circus recently came to town- it consisted of 16 of the cutest 4 year olds ever! Sam’s preK class performed a circus show for all the parents and it was so fun. They were each different parts of the circus. Sam was assigned to be one of the “strong men”- I don’t know if it is because he is the biggest boy in class or not but, I would like to think that had something to do with it. 🙂 We had to make his outfit and send him to school dressed (or at least as much as we possibly could) so the teachers could make sure everyone was ready- they went around and “practiced” for all of the other preschool classes before doing the final show for parents.
After consultation with my mom and Aunt Jtan, both teachers and creative in coming up with fun/affordable costumes, we came up with the idea of a muscle shirt and barbell. I put them together during one of Sam’s naps. For his shirt, I cut 3 styrofoam balls in half and duct taped them to a tank top in a “6 pack” pattern.
Then I went outside and cut a LARGE styrofoam ball in half and spray painted the two halves and a dowel black. Once they dried, Travis somehow or another attached the dowel to the “weights” and the barbel was complete.
Sam didn’t wear his muscle shirt to school- we put it on once we got there. I also drew a mustache on him. Then he had a “practice session” out on the sidewalk while waiting to go into school…
Miraculously, I managed to make a movie of the strong men while also snapping photos. Travis had an important work meeting and was unable to come help me with the recording. Here is the video…
We really love Sam’s school and are so thankful that God has blessed us to be able to afford to send him to PreK. He is SO smart and this is helping to strengthen what he already knows while also challenging him to attempt/learn things I would never think to teach him. Thank you so much, Mrs. Tarver and Ms. Sandy!
I took Sam to the TREEHouse Children’s Museum today. He had been asking to go for awhile and today was a great day to do it. He LOVES going there and it is super convenient (and cheap)!
The first thing he did was get dressed up. He was a huge fan of the Sonic work shirt.
After some more silly playing, we ate lunch and took naps. Then it was time for band practice!
This time, the band director (“Mr. Andrew”) invited Sam to come up front and stand under the drum major’s stand. Sam was BEYOND excited about getting to do that!
Being the little wannabe Maestro that he is, he also “helped” conduct a few songs. It was so cute! I made a video- obviously, you will have to look closely because I was across the parking lot from him.
Since we are still living in the Missionary House, we get to enjoy band practices every week. Usually, they start while Sam is finishing his nap and so, we just go for the last 30-45 minutes. Sam LOVES it! We take a snack and sit on the curb in the shade and enjoy the music. This year, they are playing random Beatles songs. They are a small band but we think they are great!
Immediately after breakfast, Papa, my mom, Sam and I head down to the lake to go fishing. Papa wanted to take Sam fishing so bad but we had to do it before it got hot since he has trouble breathing in the heat, and besides, who wants to fish from the bank when it is blazing hot outside? Not me! Papa has taken and taught all of the grands and greats how to fish but Sam hasn’t really been old enough or shown any interest until now. I still think he was more interested in the worms though. 🙂
Papa baiting Sam’s hook…
Somehow, I ended up with his rod and so I fished for a bit. I managed to hook the fish that had been stealing Sam’s worm and once I made sure it wouldn’t fall off the hook, I called Sam over to reel it in. Check out the “big” fish he caught. HA!
Papa then put Sam’s fish on a hook and tried to use him to catch a bigger fish but was not successful. Oh well…
By this time, it was getting quite toasty down at the lake so we headed back up to the house. Sam discovered that Papa’s truck has a back seat and so he insisted on riding back there. Of course, Papa let him. 🙂
Once we got back to the house, Mom, Sam and I went to Lancaster to run a couple of errands. Since my parents are living 2 months at the time in SC right now to take care of my other grandma, Mama, my mom had to pay car/homeowners insurance while we were there. Once our errands were finished, we enjoyed lunch at Chick-Fil-A. On the way out, Sam decided to be a gentleman and carry my purse out for me. 🙂
We just mainly hung out at the house the rest of the day.
The next day, I sewed a camera strap cover for my camera. I saw this idea on Pinterest and thought that it would be easy enough for me to try. However, I wanted to make sure to do it at Grandmama’s in case I ran into any problems. I only had a few minor issues and she quickly showed me how to fix them. YAY! Here is the completed cover…
I am hoping that this will help cut down on the nastiness I feel when I wear my camera and sweat in the hot Louisiana summers. So far, it is at least more comfortable since there is some padding on the strap now.
That night, we went to my great Aunt’s old store for a “singing.” Aunt Ruby’s family and friends get together every Thursday night to sing old songs and hymns. My Aunt is a really gifted mandolin player and she has some other friends and family that play the piano, guitars, and violins. I have been before to drop something off or say hey to someone but never to stay for any length of time. This time we stayed the entire night and it was fun.
One of the ladies in front of us heard Sam say that he wanted to go sing a song. So, when it was her turn (you sign up on a sheet beforehand so there is some order to things) she took him up with her and let him sing. He sung “Mary Had a Little Lamb” SO FAST that my mom ended up with a blurry picture and I made a short video. Regardless, this was his first venture into solo singing and he did very well.
You might need to turn the volume up to hear him. I managed to only get the end of his song. 😦
Sam took control of my camera and snapped a few pictures before we left for the night…
For our anniversary this year, I picked up a PaperJamz Drum Set for Travis. He LOVES beating various rhythms on things and so this has been a huge hit in our house. Well, tonight at Target, we found a PaperJamz guitar on clearance ($7.50) and got one for Sam. He LOVES it. It is able to sync with the computer so you can put your own music on it. I did that and let Sam pick his songs. Here they are:
1- Elvis’ “The Wonder of You”
2- Elvis’ ” Hound Dog”
3- The Getty’s “Hear the Call of the Kingdom”
HA! Such random music FROM A THREE YEAR OLD!! Crazy!
Anyway, here is a picture of them playing the instruments.
